UK Sommelier of the Year Competition announced and under new ownership by the IWSC

NEWS…The IWSC has taken ownership of the UK Sommelier of the Year competition, announced it will take place on 14-15 October and entries are OPEN!

The IWSC acquired the competition from The Caterer Magazine's parent company Jacobs Media who had looked after the UK wine’s service premier accolade since 2014 running it in partnership with us and with the support of the ASI

We have been fortunate to work with and be supported by the IWSC, for a long time and that’s one of the reasons their taking over the UK Sommelier of the Year Competition is very welcome news.

The IWSC will continue working with us to develop a new format for the celebrated competition while staying true to its mission of recognising the UK’s finest sommeliers.

Our president, Nicolas Clerc, said the acquisition represented a new chapter in the history of the prestigious award. “The IWSC and Christelle Guibert have been a real supporter of the sommelier community in the UK for many years and have been the strongest supporters of the Academy to date.”

IWSC CEO Christelle Guibert said: “At the IWSC, we are proud of our continued commitment to fostering excellence and education within the wine, spirits, and hospitality industries. It is with great pleasure that we take ownership of the UK Sommelier of the Year competition. This prestigious event has long celebrated the talents and expertise of sommeliers across the UK, and we are excited to continue its legacy by supporting and promoting the sommelier profession.”

2024’s competition is scheduled for 14-15th October.

Entries are now open and the closing date for applications is 19th August.
