2025 UK Sommelier of the Year - 7-8th of July- Entries open until

We are delighted to welcome back the @theiwsc with their second edition of the UK Sommelier of the Year competition.

It’s set to take place on the 7th and 8th of July, with the live final hosted at the iconic Christ Church Spitalfields on Day 2.

The UK Sommelier of the Year competition has long been a prestigious event in the hospitality industry, celebrating the talents and expertise of sommeliers across the country.

We will be working in partnership with the IWSC to host this annual event, celebrating and recognising the UK’s finest sommeliers.

Entries to the 2025 competition are now open and will close on 1st May.

Competing in the UKSOY contest allows you to push yourself to improve your knowledge and spur you on to try harder to achieve a better result, pitting your skills against friends and colleagues, whilst enjoying the camaraderie of the contest. For the winner it offers a chance to be selected to take part in future ASI International contests, which is very exciting.

It helps if you have a competitive edge and love competing and being challenged. The UKSOY  is a great experience, which replicates the high standard and training needed to compete at International level, so it is a great test of skills and knowledge. Through competing you will meet old friends and make new ones.

Preparation is the key.  One of the hardest parts is the theory, as you need to find the time to study while working, so you have to be organised and plan to study. You also need to focus on the blind tasting of wines and spirits, but this part is the fun part, as you can include friends and colleagues in your training. For the practical part, the best service training is at work on the restaurant floor and practising scenarios with colleagues to make sure you are ready for anything.

Competing is an enriching experience in so many ways... give it a shot and enjoy every moment of the journey.
